The 1953 movie Forbidden Planet, staring Walter Pigeon, Leslie Neilsen also included a robot, called Robbie by the character Altair, who was played by Ann Francis. For the 1950's it was an inspiring design, though it would be difficult for the stunt actor inside to actually move. the original Robbie is reported to be seen at sci-fi conventions in the USA. This particular robot is often confsed with 'Ther Robot' from the Irwin Allen TV series: 'Lost in Space' . The appeared together for an LIS episode. however, as you can see, from 'The Robot' pages, that was a very different robot indeed. This plastic kit from Polar Lights is made in injection moulded polystyrene. It can be assembled much like any other palstic model. Painting was very simple, a coat of gloss black looks about right, though the actual robot is a sort of sem-gloss black, or sometimes a very dark blue-grey. Afterwards, the chrome-plated parts were fitted. The clear plastic dome was painted black gloss paint along its edge to reduce internal reflections.

Here I photographed Robbie against a white card and black cloth ground. 2-stops under exposed at F8 has given a good depth of field. The model is fixed position. The Ploar Lights Robbie could be lit with miniture leds an a VOX sound-board to illuminate the front plate. BACK
